Books

I’m taking part in a 52 Week Project with 17 other photographers from across the World.

The 52 Week Project has been set up to have a new theme every week, and then each photographer interprets the theme and posts their picture every Friday at 9AM CST.

Our theme this week is books.

The first week we took a self portrait, the second week our theme was shades of red, the third week our theme was warmth, the fourth week our theme was signs, the fifth week our theme was motions, the sixth week our theme was love & the seventh week our theme was new beginnings. I really need to figure out how to clump these all together! Still haven’t done that…so the list continues.

It really is amazing to see how each photographer interprets the theme. You will also see some neat photographs from these ladies so be sure to click on the link at the bottom of this post to see the next photographer.

When I read that the theme this week was books my thoughts immediately went here…

I was obsessed with Anne when I was in middleschool.

My journal entries always began with Dear Anne. I would write to Anne as if she was a real friend of mine, and tell her all of my dreams for the future.

My friends and I would write letters and call each other ‘bosom buddies’ & ‘kindred spirits.’ I think I read and reread the Anne set of books at least 8 times during my middleschool and early highschool years.

She was a real friend to me, and I loved her. I related to her, and tried to see the world like she did.

This set of books will always be special to me for that reason.

I moved a lot when I was a kid, and I remember how much it helped me to have a friend in Anne. It was like she gave me the courage to face a new environment. I understood feeling like an outsider, and she helped me to have the courage to not let it stop me from making new friends.

I keep my set of Anne books in a special little nook in my house along with my wedding bouquet, a special broach from my great grandma, a tea set from my grandma and little trinkets that I have picked up along the way.

Now head over and check out Doniphan, NE child photographer Jessica Richter’s blog to see how she interpreted the theme this week!

Kate, I, too, loved Anne of Green Gables, but it was more because of the movies than the books. I’ll have to try the books again some time. But I *LOVED* this post and the simplicity of it. I loved how it brought back so many wonderful childhood memories for me, too. And, I, too, would LOVE to go visit Prince Edward Island some day just because this “Anne-girl” character was so significant to me growing up. I think it would be fun to see the “real life” Green Gables in all its beauty. 🙂 You and I should go sometime and we should bring our moms, too, because my mom said she’d like to go on that trip, too. 🙂 Thanks for sharing this post! 🙂

I’ve never read the books either, maybe my LO might like them! I’ve seen some of the movies though. 🙂 Beautiful images, loved that you used lace.

I have always dreamed about going to Prince Edward Island! I would love to take pics. It would be an awesome place to visit in the summer for a photography workshop. Hmmm? It would be worth looking into.

Kate, what a sweet collection of your treasures. As a child, I adored my Mary Poppins books as you did your Anne books.

Kate, every time I read anything you write, I like you a little bit more. I still haven’t read the Anne series, but I loved the movies. And it’s never too late, is it?

jayme franklin - March 4, 2011 - 11:18 am

Oh wow… this brings me back. I too was a devout ‘Anne’ fan… I read every single book. My grandmother used to send me a new one each time I was finished the last.. I would get soOOo excited waiting for it to arrive with the mailman.

I adore these shots and you XO
