Hand Me Down Halloween
I've come to love hand me downs.Maybe it is because I have three boys.Maybe it is because the nearest store is an hour and a half away, and the thought of taking my three boys shopping keeps me home. Maybe it is because I feel good when I can save some money... oh boy my husband is laughing right now! I am not known as a spendthrift, but I am starting to be more aware of it.Maybe it is because I am starting to see the beauty in worn stuff.Don't get me wrong, I love to buy a new pair of shoes. Actually I love to buy new anything, but I'm slowly starting to see that sometimes just being content with what you have and making the best of it is a good thing. My kids were so excited to wear their hand me down costumes for Halloween. Fischer & Hazen's great aunt gave us the Thomas costume and the builder/conductor costume.Hazen decided he wanted to be a builder, but then everyone in town thought he was the conductor for Thomas the Train. That is the nice thing about being three. You can just change your mind midway through Halloween whether you are a builder or a conductor!Little Dusty wore his camo suit with a hole in the footie part. That little outfit has been around a long time. Fischer Lee wore it when he was a baby, and he is about to turn 5!My boys had just as much fun trick or treating with their hand me down Halloween costumes as they would have with brand new costumes.Next year I might have to break down and buy some costumes, but for now I am just going to enjoy the memory of our Hand Me Down Halloween. We are leaving today to visit my family in Texas. I can't wait to see everyone. We are also heading to Austin to take family pictures with a fellow photographer I met online. I can't wait to actually meet her for REAL. I will post pictures from our trip when we return next week! The Rancher's Wife Kate
