    Hi I'm Kate, and that little girl playing dress up is me at age 4. I didn't realize that someday I would become a real rancher's wife. Ranch life is a sweet life, and something I've come to love. We really do carve our initials in aspen trees before we are married. We really do know each other by name and treat each other like family. We really do drive down a dirt road & wake up every morning to the sun rising over a mountain. I hope when you look through my images you see the simple, sweet things of life magnified. It is what I set out to capture every time I work with a family, couple or child.

    Homemade

    It’s Friday so that means it is time to post another image for the 52 Week Project. The theme this week is homemade.

    Every Thursday, I head into town to volunteer in Fischer’s class. Some Thursdays I have Hazen & Dusty with me.

    Some Thursdays (like yesterday!) I only have Hazen with me because Daddy is able to take baby Dusty. It just makes volunteering a little easier when it is just Hazy J and I. I love having baby Dusty along, but he is at an age where I can’t just release him in the classroom. Last time he got ahold of a marker, and tried to color on one of the books. Eek! Usually I just strap him in the stroller. It works great until he decides he’s sick of it, and then starts squaking. It’s just a tad distracting.;)

    Hazen is four, and loves interacting with all of the kindergartners. He also loves to participate in whatever project they have lined up for the day. Yesterday instead of having the math table, they made chinese dragons to celebrate the Chinese New Year.

    He had to color his dragon head.

    He had to cut his dragon head.

    He had to tape streamers & a stick to his dragon head. I know it may seem redundant to post everything he did, but it seems like just yesterday when Hazy J was baby Dusty’s age. How has he grown so fast, and how can he participate in school age tasks?

    He sat right next to Fischer, and watched his big brother intently before diving in himself. After our volunteer session was over, Fischer asked if we could join him for hot lunch. So we hurried out to the suburban to grab my checkbook, and hurried down the hallway towards the lunchroom.

    Hazen kept telling me ‘don’t run mom it is not allowed!’

    We ate with the entire kindergarten class, and Hazen made sure to sit right next to his big brother. He even knew how to open his bag of Doritoes chips without mom’s help.

     We then stopped at the bank to deposit a check, and he was able to pick out 3 suckers. One for him, one for brother & one for baby.

    You absolutely HAD to list all of the things Fischer had to do to create the project to contrast it with this image. He looks like such a big/little boy with the chinese dragon he made and his thumb in his mouth. Absolutely perfect storytelling in an image. Perfection. I am shocked every day at what my big/little guy does at preschool. Love this post! Big pink puffy hearts!

    So sweet! I love that he’s sucking his thumb and holding his blanket. Such a fun age with a mix of independence and “baby” ways. One of my guys is a thumb sucker and I’ll be sad when that finally goes away.
